June is when the summer starts. I like the weather in June because it’s warm and sunny but not too hot. It's a popular month for weddings because of the nice weather. In the morning, the sun comes up early, and at night, it gets dark late, about 10 o'clock. The longest day of the year is around June 21st.
In gardens, there are pretty flowers like roses and poppies. This is also a good time for tasty strawberries. You can buy strawberries all year but June is a good month for British strawberries. We eat them with cream and sugar. June is a stressful month for children and young people because they have exams. For 18-year-olds, the exams are very important. They need good results to go to university. 16-year-olds also have exams which are quite important. For university students, June is the end of the year and there are lots of parties. Students have a long summer break. Final year students graduate and their parents watch. Then they have to say goodbye to their friends. The third Sunday in June is Father’s Day. Mother’s Day is an old celebration but Father’s Day is quite new. It started in America over a hundred years ago and came to England after the Second World War. Families meet together and people give gifts and cards to their fathers. British Kings and Queen have two birthdays! Their official birthday is in June because the weather is usually good. King Charles was born in November but his official birthday is on the third Saturday in June. If you enjoyed reading this, you may also like my e-book "A Year in England". This book will give you a chance to practise your reading skills, learn new vocabulary and find out about life in England. The e-book is a higher level than this blog post but it does provide a vocabulary list for each text. Get your copy here. Comments are closed.
