Here are some things I hear from clients ALL THE TIME:
“I feel nervous or scared in a conversation. I’m worried about making mistakes or sounding like a child. I’m anxious about what other people will think of me if I try to speak English so sometimes it’s easier not to say anything at all.”
“Sometimes I feel awkward because I don’t know what to say. I even avoid situations where I might have to talk to somebody! I don’t like going into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee in case I have to make conversation!”
“I want to be able to talk about a wider range of topics but my vocabulary and grammar are limited. I can’t say exactly what I want to say and this is frustrating.”
“I feel left out of conversations because it’s difficult to understand what people are saying. I feel too shy about my English to join in.”
“I learnt English at school but it was a while ago and I’ve forgotten a lot of it now. I’ve lost my confidence. My younger colleagues know more English than I do and I’m feeling left behind.”
“I want to be taken seriously at work and not feel overlooked. It’s difficult enough being a woman and getting my male colleagues to take me seriously but my lack of confidence in English makes things feel even harder.”
“I’ve been learning English for a while but I don’t feel that I’m making progress. If I could get to a higher level of English, I would enjoy going to work so much more. I might even apply for a better job!"

What my clients say
"Before we worked together, I definitely didn't feel confident and I understood that I had to "break" the barrier. I had experience talking about my work, but this was limiting and wasn't helpful in day-to-day life in the UK, so I decided to have some lessons that would help me.
I wanted to talk with a teacher who had experience and Katie is quite patient.
I feel that I speak much more fluently than before. I make mistakes but I'm not so focused on this anymore, because I see everyone makes some mistakes, so it is not the end of the world. The most important thing is to be able to pass on the information so people understand and I think in most cases I am capable of doing that now. There is no need to be ashamed of any mistakes or bad pronunciation.
Katie also helped me understand how people in the UK live, what the differences from Russia are, and what to expect from a cultural perspective as we discussed holidays and some memorable dates. This helped me to adjust for sure.
I would like to add thank you for all your help! Your patience and openness helped me not only with my English but also to understand British people a little bit more. There were insights into the culture and I don't feel a stranger here. The lessons were a really important part of my relocation to the UK."

"At the beginning, I needed to obtain a B2-level certificate for my work and my English abilities were rusty. I felt clumsy and incompetent. After that, I continued to work with Katie to practise conversation because it's my weak point as well as listening. At university, I studied mainly grammar and literature.
I chose Katie because she inspired me with trust and her expertise. Maybe I was afraid of not understanding at first and sometimes I’m still afraid but I think it’s better to find a solution and to improve.
Now I feel better about my English than before. Recently, I realized that I have good enough skills in grammar and I improved my listening and conversation but it always needs practice.
I got my English certificate for my job and now I’m a little more confident in speaking. Moreover, studying with Katie, I found out about cultural aspects of English native speakers that are reflected in the use of language.
Katie is kind and always careful about students' needs. She works taking care of details, she gives you the right tips according to your requests. She puts you at ease. I like that she’s also interested in my life. It’s a good approach to working together.
Thanks to Katie, I understand English better now than during my university studies."
